The Nowst in summer and autumn
|
Hoswick Beach House is situated in the village of Hoswick, which is on the west side of the district of Sandwick. Hoswick probably grew as a predominantly fishing village, serving the nearby former fishing station at Broonie's Taing which was at it's height in the early 1900's but declined by the late 1930's. Hoswick used to have Shetland tweed weaving, but this finished in the 1980's and the Visitor Centre (tearoom and museum) is housed in one of the former weaving sheds. The former Barclay Arms Hotel is now the Orca Country Inn and is not currently open to non-residents - it is located in Hoswick, up the hill at the top of the village.
